On Friday 4 March 2016, a group of 11 students (10 Japanese and 1 Korean) from Auckland Institute of Studies and myself left AIS at 2.15pm and headed for Muriwai Beach. It was a sunny afternoon with patches of cloud and the temperature was about 24 degrees. At the beach, there was a gentle sea breeze, so conditions were excellent.

Muriwai Beach Horse Riding
We met Nette from About Riding – a horse riding company based at Muriwai – on the edge of Woodhill Forest at 3.15pm, had some instructions about horse riding, and the group got on their horses and set off to the beach.
They rode along a short, sandy track which heads down to Muriwai Beach, and then along the beach. The trek then headed up to Woodhill Forest, which is an area where many TV programs and movies are made. After riding through the forest, the group returned to the starting point. The ride took 1 hour.
After the horse riding, we drove a short distance to the Gannet Colony at Muriwai and took some photos of the spectacular scenery of the coast as well as the Gannet Colony itself.
We returned to AIS at about 6.30pm
