On 13 June, a group of 11 AIS students (10 from Korea and 1 from Japan) and I left AIS at 2.30pm and went to Bethells Beach in west Auckland. It is also known by its Maori name Te Henga.

Destination: Bethells Beach
It was a fine day but there was a very cold wind so although the temperature was about 16 degrees, it felt about half that.

Last year this beach was used by Taylor Swift for the start and finish of her music video ‘Out of the Woods’ and she said it was the most beautiful beach she had been to. Bethells is often used for filming TV programs like ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ and movies because of its remote and wild atmosphere, which is also why Samsung used the beach as the location for an epic advertisement in 2013.
There are seldom many people at Bethells but today the beach was pretty much deserted and after a short while a few of the AIS group chose to head back to the carpark area because it was sheltered from the wind and therefore much warmer.

Those who had dressed in warm clothes for a winter’s day at the beach had no such problems though and they explored the southern end of the beach.

We left Bethells at 5.15pm and returned to AIS about 6.15pm.
