Blues vs Rebels

Blues vs Rebels

On Saturday 30 April 2016, a large group (19 in total) of students from Auckland Institute of Studies and I went to the Blues vs Rebels rugby game at Eden Park. The Blues are the local team (Auckland and north of Auckland region), while the Rebels are from Melbourne, Australia.

Rugby – price varies.

Eden Park Rugby: Blues vs Rebels

I had 10 VIP Blues supporter tickets and I bought the remainder a couple of days previously. These tickets are all $25 each (student concession) and are excellent seats – close to the action. Tickets also include train or bus fare to and from Eden Park.

When we arrived, there were some non-playing Blues players (Joe Edwards and Blake Gibson) giving out Blues flags to supporters. We collected our flags and then had our faces painted in Blues colours.

The game had an early start (5.15pm) and it was exciting, with 10 tries being scored in all (6 by the Blues and 4 by the Rebels) and the Blues ended up winning 36 – 30.

After the game, supporters were invited onto the field to meet players and get selfies with them. Some of the players are All Blacks as well as Blues players. We caught the train back to AIS, returning at about 8.30pm.

I grew up in Auckland and I know the city and the areas around it intimately. I enjoy taking people to many special places that this region has to offer, either to marvel at the breath-taking scenery or to participate in a range of outdoor activities.
