Blues vs Sharks Rugby

Blues vs Sharks

On Saturday 16 April 2016, a group of 16 students from Auckland Institute of Studies and I went to the Blues vs Sharks rugby game at Eden Park. The Blues are the local team (Auckland and north of Auckland region), while the Sharks are from Durban, South Africa.

Eden Park Rugby: Blues vs Sharks

I had 10 VIP Blues supporter tickets and I bought the remainder a couple of days previously. These tickets are all $25 each (student concession) and are excellent seats – close to the action. Tickets also include train or bus fare to and from Eden Park.

When we arrived, there were some non-playing Blues players giving out Blues flags to supporters. We collected our flags and then had our faces painted in Blues colours.

The game kicked off at 7.35pm and it was a close affair, with the Sharks leading for most of the match, but a couple of moments of brilliance saw the Blues get the win 23 – 18, although the Sharks could be considered a little unlucky to lose.

After the game, some players from the Blues came to the side of the stands to allow fans to get selfies with them. Some of the players are All Blacks players as well as playing for the Blues. We caught the train back to AIS, returning at about 10pm.

I grew up in Auckland and I know the city and the areas around it intimately. I enjoy taking people to many special places that this region has to offer, either to marvel at the breath-taking scenery or to participate in a range of outdoor activities.
