On 5 August 2016, a group of 9 students from Auckland Institute of Studies left the school at 2.30pm and went to Ambury Regional Park (aka Ambury Farm) which is a working farm in Mangere, Auckland.

It was a lovely winter day and this is an ideal time to visit Ambury as there are baby animals all over the park. The first field had sheep with their newly-born lambs. We then went to a much smaller field which housed the orphan lambs.
These are ones whose mothers have had more lambs than they can feed so the farmers take them away and hand-feed them. They associate people with their feeding routine so these lambs tend to rush towards visitors and are very friendly.
Next we went to the calves paddock and these baby cows were about 6 to 8 weeks old. Once again, they are quite friendly.
We visited the angora goats, the farm horses and the pig with all her piglets before heading back to the orphan lambs for feeding time. Hand-feeding a lamb is an unforgettable experience so the group thoroughly enjoyed this highlight of the afternoon.
We left Ambury at about 5pm and reached AIS at 5.30pm.
